Thanks to the MIT community’s ongoing adherence to our safety protocols, risk of transmission on the MIT campus remains low. This past week’s positive cases represent 0.04% of all COVID-19 tests conducted at MIT between 10/03/2021 and 10/09/2021. For comparison, the current seven-day percentage average for positive tests is 2.01% in Massachusetts and the current 14-day average for positive tests is 0.28% in Cambridge.
Among this week’s 15 positive tests recorded at MIT, 1 is among members of our community who reside on campus; 1 is an undergraduate student; 2 are graduate students; 10 are MIT employees; and 2 are affiliates or contract staff authorized to access campus.
This week, 4 community members reported a positive test result in the past 90 days from a test conducted outside of MIT’s Covid testing protocol.
MIT Medical has worked with each positive case to identify any close contacts. Close contacts are defined as individuals who spent more than 15 minutes cumulatively within six feet of a person who tested positive for COVID-19, from two days before illness onset or, for asymptomatic people, two days prior to positive COVID-19 test. All unvaccinated close contacts have been advised to quarantine by MIT Medical.
